Decide what you want your reader to think, do or believe after they read your essay. That is your thesis the answer to your question.
Decide who you want to persuade to believe this that is your reader or audience. Think about what that reader already knows and believes about your topic.
That will help you develop your arguments. The reader should not be someone who already believes what you do. If they do, you aren't really arguing are you?
